High Speed Internet Acess–How is yours?
This is an update to some past posts and comments on my High Speed internet connections.
Today we are using Clear High Speed wireless and Sudden Link for TV and a backup internet connection. Sudden link has been adequate for TV. Sudden Link internet speed still sucks.
Clear is not much better here is a list of the problems reported to Clear:
- System went down after upgrade to”new high speed modem”. Excuse–we upgraded to fast should be working fine by Oct 5, 2010.
- System Went down due to upgraded modem failure. Clear shipped “new improved modem”. System immediately went down reason unknown–trouble ticket filed.
- System down for a week due to upgrades. However the old 1.5 meg system worked at about 1000 K.
- System down called for status. Tech could not give a reason for system being down.
There are other problems, but I believe that Clear will eventually get their problems solved.
Update on Sudden Link:
- TV is still good but promised new channels have not materialized.
- Internet is still bad. Problem is that Sudden Link has oversold their bandwidth.
- Sudden Link has been taken over by Charter Communications. Charter has the worst record for customer service in the industry. Expect your internet service to get worse.
I really don’t have a good internet service provider at this point. Benton REA our local electrical coop is in the internet business also and are trying hard to get better speeds, however they recently signed an agreement with Charter to provide them with band width. So for me this does not look like a good solution either.
I personally thank everyone that has commented on this blog and will try to answer some of the comments. Almost all comments have been great.

3 Things for Begining Marketers to Avoid
3 THINGS TO DO TO AVOID GETTING SCAMMED AS A BEGINNING MARKETER
By Charles L. Evans

I believe that every new internet marketer gets scammed at least once in the first month of trying to be on line. You are new and eager to get things done. You don’t know where to start. So you get a zillion messages that say buy my product and you will be an instant millionaire. This is bunk. The ain’t no free lunch. Here is a free product that will get you started. Magic Button
The reality is you are going to buy products that you don’t need or that don’t work for you. The important thing is to limit these mistakes.
How can you avoid buying products that you don’t need? There are a few significant things that you can do to find products that will help you build your business..
-
Use the grocery store sample method. You go to Costco and try a free sample if you don’t like the sample you don’t buy the product. You don’t buy the product if it is not in your budaget or related to your shopping list. Download and use the free stuff if you like how the author relates to you than put them on your list to considerer for purchase. Look for those that have really done it. Some times this is hard to determine however look at their web site. The most important way to use this method is to search for their name and web site on google. Read what other people have to say. Search the marketing forums for information for beginners. This is good experience and very enlightening.
-
Check them out on Rip Off Report. Don’t believe every thing in rip off but they are a good indicator of how complaints are solved and what the customer service is like.
-
Be careful and due your research before you pull out your credit card.
I learned these lessons the hard way. I was looking to make some extra money and contacted the Robert Allen web site. I got a phone call that promised to evaluate me as a student. You know the story set the hook. My wife and I knew that internet marketing was a good thing. Robert Allen’s Prosper learning promised the moon a delivered a rock. We spent $10,000 on a coaching program that was supposed to put us on easy street. The problem was that the coaches were people that had been in internet marketing for a short while and had not made much money. The first coach quit and went to work for the Ubuntu folks selling and developing commercial software. Our second coach was a lady with a boutique and we were trying to develop a web site to sell auto parts and another to sell jigsaw puzzles. To make matters worse we were signed up for a program on a monthly recurring basis in addition to the $10,000 up front charge. It took me over a year to get that charge canceled and I noticed that it appeared again a month or so ago. Don’t bite on the expensive program unless you know that they will work. Don’t buy the hype. Above all else check with the Better Business Bureau in the city where they are located for complaints. All so check with the secretary of State for that state to see if they actually have a business license. Any legitimate business will have a license.
How can I get started in internet marketing and not get scammed? There are a few easy things to do.
-
Exercise discipline—don’t believe it will be off the market in 3 days. It may be but these things always seem to show up later either as a bonus or a lower price.
-
Do your research.
-
Plan what you want to accomplish.
-
Look at the free stuff—there is a lot of excellent beginning marketing material that is free. Here is the best free stuff I have ever found. It doesn’t even cost an email address. Magic Button You have nothing to loose–press the magic button. Now go out on the web and look for other free stuff.
Internet Marketing is the wave of the future. You can make money on the internet. You need to get started. Do it the right way and the smart way. I recommend that you avoid all programs the use recurring billing until you have determined that they work for you. There are three recurring products that I use and these can be found on my web site. Any business has some risk—the secret is to manage the risk and get the job done.

WHAT IS AN INTERNET BUSINESS
What is an Internet Business
by
Charles L. Evans
Hi, This Bud Evans your Benton City Redneck Marketer. Today we are going to discuss What an internet business is and what it means to you.
The simple definition of an internet business is: “Any web based activity that generates revenue or a return for you.” This is my definition. This can be money which we all like, It can be customers for a brick and mortar business. Internet products can be digital such as movies, ebooks and reports. Hard goods are also sold over the internet.
Generally an internet business contains these Parts:
-
A web site. This may be a blog or a static web site consisting of multiple pages.
-
A method to collect payment–generally credit card service or PayPal.
-
A plan to generate traffic
-
Your personal computer
-
Software to generate the web site.
-
Knowledge to put it all together.
If this sound like a lot of work. It is. If you thought that you were going to click your mouse a couple of times and be instantly rich then close this video right now. I can’t help you. If you are still interested then follow the link to my pages and get some great free stuff to get you started. Just click the MAGIC BUTTON. This is an example of an affiliate link.
A favorite way to do business on the internet is eBay. Almost anything can be bought or sold through eBay. Many people use eBay to supplement their income or generate an other income stream. For many eBay has grow to be a full time business.
A second favorite business is affiliate marketing. When you sell another persons product via the internet you become their “affiliate.” Generally you promote and sell the product while the “product owner” takes care of the payment and delivery. It usually works something like this. You put a web page on the internet that promotes a product. When some one “clicks through ” (clicks to go to the affiliate sale page) a computer code is generated that tells the owner that you have sent a customer. If the customer buys the product then the product owner will pay you the agreed percentage of the purchase price.
Then that page is promoted–advertise, made visible to as many people as possible. This is accomplished by many different methods. This is called traffic generation. Just like the store downtown you need to get people in your front door.
There are lots ow ways that the internet is used to market. I use several methods to “sell” my brick and mortar repair business.
-
Videos about automobile maintenance.
-
A web site.
-
Yellow page and internet telephone ads.
-
Articles posted on the internet.
As you can see internet marketing is a large subject. Don’t visit this web site if you know every thing about internet marketing, if you don’t here is a great place to start for the beginner or the advance marketer. MAGIC BUTTON
